Specifically, from March 2023, Vietnam Airlines will resume flights between Hanoi and Beijing with 3 flights a week. At the same time, the carrier will increase the frequency of flights connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Guangzhou and Shanghai. Each of these routes will be increased from 1 to 2 flights a week to 4 flights a week.
From April 2023, Vietnam Airlines will reopen 4 routes between Da Nang and Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu; and between Hanoi and Chengdu, with a frequency of 2 flights a week on each route.
At the same time, from September 2023, Vietnam Airlines plans to operate wide-body Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft on routes between Hanoi and Beijing; and between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai.
The airline’s representative said that the reopening and increasing frequency of flights to China is to meet the travel and tourism demand between the two countries.
With an optimistic scenario that China continues to ease related procedures, Vietnam Airlines expects the number of passengers flying between the two countries in 2023 will reach about 80% of those of 2019.
Before the COVID-19 epidemic, in 2019, Vietnam Airlines served 8.1 million passengers between China and Vietnam, accounting for 19% of the carrier’s total number of passengers and in the top 3 markets with the largest number of passengers./.
