Vietnam, Japan promote tourism cooperation

(CPV) – Vietnam and Japan will strengthen tourism cooperation activities, exchange delegations and promote promotion together to rebuild tourists’ confidence and restore visitor exchange as before the pandemic.

On November 17, in Da Nang, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and the Japan National Administration of Tourism held the 9th meeting of the Vietnam - Japan Tourism Cooperation Committee. This is a periodic event to promote tourism cooperation between the two countries.

At the meeting, Deputy Director General of VNAT Ha Van Sieu, said that this is an opportunity for both sides to review cooperation activities implemented since the 8th session, and at the same time propose new initiatives and initiatives to promote tourism cooperation and facilitate the restoration of the exchange of Vietnamese - Japanese tourists as soon as possible.

Sieu said that Japan is always among the top three markets sending tourists to Vietnam and Vietnam is also a favorite destination in the region for Japanese tourists.

At the 8th meeting of the Vietnam - Japan Tourism Cooperation Committee in Japan in 2018, the two sides set a goal to reach a total visitor exchange of 1.5 million by 2020. This goal has been successfully accomplished by both sides since 2019 when Vietnam welcomed nearly 1 million Japanese tourists and Japan welcomed nearly 500,000 Vietnamese tourists.

In the first 10 months of 2022, Vietnam welcomed about 120,000 Japanese visitors, ranking fourth in Vietnam’s leading tourists sending markets.

Deputy General Director of the Japan National Administration of Tourism Hoshino Mitsuaki said that the immigration policy between the two countries has been facilitated; emphasizing the importance of sustainable tourism cooperation, promoting tourism promotion activities; improving the quality of tourism products and activities to meet the increasing demand for tourists of the two countries.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh, Deputy Director of Da Nang Department of Tourism hoped that the two sides would work together to build an annual tourism development cooperation program, focusing on exchanging information and organizing cultural exchanges, festivals, events and organizing promotion activities, surveying market and exchanging visitor sources between destinations.

At the session, the two sides approved the Vietnam - Japan action plan on tourism cooperation in the period of 2022 - 2024. According to the plan, the 10th session of the Vietnam - Japan Tourism Cooperation Committee will be held in Japan./.
