The Quang Ngai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has organized a press conference announcing the 2nd National Paragliding Club Championship in Ly Son Island district.
Ly Son has hosted many international paragliding tournaments.
At the event, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Quang Ngai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that this year’s event will take place at the top of Thoi Loi Mountain with the expected landing area is about 500m.
Thoi Loi Mountain was surveyed and evaluated as an ideal and safe flying spot to organize paragliding tournaments. In 2019, the mountain was chosen for an international paragliding tournament with the participation of many pilots from around the world.
“The event aims to improve the movement of physical training and sports, contributing to promoting the image and tourism in Ly Son Island,” Mr. Dung said.
It offered an opportunity for Vietnamese paragliders to practice and evaluate their qualifications and skills to prepare for regional and international paragliding tournaments.
Mr. Dung said that the organizers have received registrations from 5 paragliding clubs with 50 athletes. Each team will consist of 7 members, who are fully equipped with insurance and life jackets before participating and taking off.
Ly Son Island has an area of over 10.3km2. It is located 15 nautical miles from the mainland of Quang Ngai. The island includes the Big Island and Small Island, with a population of about 22,000 people./.
